Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa, she been totally killing it in the running world. She like broke the mixed world record in 2023 in Berlin with a time of 2:11:53. Then, at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she came in second place. And now, she just won the women’s race at the 2025 London Marathon. Like seriously, she’s on fire!

Tigst like totally crushed the previous record set by Peres Jepchirchir from Kenya in London last year. She beat it by 26 seconds. I mean, that’s insane! Even Paula Radcliffe, the former women’s marathon world record holder and BBC One commentator, was all like, “That was a phenomenal race so hats off to Tigst Assefa for being brave enough to go out in the pace she did! The manner in which she lifted herself to get across the line as well.” Like, that’s some high praise right there!

Then there’s this other Ethiopian, Haven Hailu Desse, who won the women’s Osaka Marathon in Japan back in 2023. She finished fourth in the London Marathon. Not bad at all!

As for the rest of the women’s race, Kenyan Joyciline Jepkosgei took second place, and the Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan, who’s like a reigning Olympic and Paris Olympic marathon champion, settled for third place. I mean, tough competition all around, right?

Now, onto the men’s race. Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola, who was all dominant at the marathon in the Paris Olympics with a record-breaking performance, ended up in fifth place at the 2025 London Marathon. I guess even the best have their off days, right? And then you have Kenyan Sabastian Sawe who totally crushed it and won the elite men’s London Marathon, crossing the finish line in 2hr 2min 25sec. Like, talk about speed!

So yeah, Tigst Assefa is definitely proving herself to be one of the greatest athletes of her generation. And with performances like these, she’s not slowing down anytime soon. Who knows what she’ll accomplish next?

I’m not really sure why this matters, but I feel like Tigst Assefa is just getting started on her journey to greatness. Can’t wait to see what she does next!
